Photo of Christopher HoulihanOne of the most brilliant organists of the younger generation, Christopher Houlihan begins at Ascension a national tour playing the six organ symphonies of Louis Vierne. This is in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the death of Vierne, the famous blind organist of Notre Dame, Paris from 1900 to 1937. Exactly 75 years before this marathon, on June 2, 1937, he died at the console of the Notre Dame organ in the middle of a recital, his protégé, Maurice Duruflé, at his side. Vierne’s six organ symphonies represent the summit of symphonic composition for the organ in France.

Your marathon ticket will admit you to both concerts. You can choose to hear both concerts and enjoy a pleasant dinner in between at a local restaurant (we will have a list to recommend), or come and go as you please!
