Liz Norman, Executive Director, Voices of AscensionLiz Norman has spent her career focusing her creative energy in the arts. As a consultant in arts education her work includes capacity building, creative thinking techniques, arts programming, curriculum development, and assessment. Her clients have included organizations such as Chamber Music America, The Gotham Chamber Opera, Chocolate Chip Chamber Music, The American Social History Project, and the United Federation of Teachers.

Liz is currently Executive Director of Voices of Ascension, where she is working with all constituents to build the administrative framework to sustain Voices' twenty-year legacy of artistic excellence in choral music performance.

From 2004-2009, Liz was Director of Education for Orchestra of St. Luke's and had spent the prior seven years working for OSL as a curriculum consultant and teaching artist. From 1994-2004, at the forefront of arts integration, Liz used her skills as a teaching artist developing a signature partnership with Martin Luther King High School for the New York City Opera. Rounding out her experience in arts education, Liz was a member of the teaching artist roster for the Lincoln Center Institute from 1999-2004 and was a Senior Instructional Specialist in the Arts for the New York City Department of Education 2002-2003. She has extended her work in the field by serving as a Teaching Fellow for NYSCA Empire State Partnerships (2005-2009) and by acting as a Co-Chair of Music Curriculum Development for the New York City Department of Education Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in Music, 2nd Edition, published in 2008.

Liz Norman holds a BA in Humanities and a BMus in Voice Performance from McGill University in Montreal as well as a MMus in Voice Performance from the Manhattan School of Music. As a professional mezzo-soprano, Liz toured the country for CAMI community concerts, New York City Opera, and the Gregg Smith Singers. In addition to recitals and chamber music concerts in New York, Liz has appeared with New York City Opera, New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theater, New York Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Orchestra of St. Luke's, Voices of Ascension, Musica Sacra, and Sacred Music in a Sacred Space. She makes her home in Brooklyn, with her husband and two sons.
