American modernist composer Charles Ives wrote this work for chorus, organ, and bells between 1923 and 1924. Though largely ignored for most of his career, Ives is one of the first American composers to gain international fame. His musical influences include images and sounds from hymn tunes, patriotic songs, town bands, and parlor songs. Psalm 90, a piece from his early career, conveys and celebrates peace and unity over destruction and chaos.
