Liz Norman, Executive Director of Voices of Ascension since 2009 (and former ensemble member), is building the administrative framework to sustain and grow Voices' twenty-five-year legacy of artistic excellence in choral music performance. She has led a strategic planning process, developed operational systems and successfully completed a $100,000 fundraising challenge campaign. Previously she served as Director of Arts Education for the Orchestra of St. Luke’s where she oversaw a three-year strategic plan initiative and built a sequential school arts partnership curriculum. She served as co-chair of the New York City Department of Education Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in Music K-12 (2008).

Liz has worked as a teaching artist for the New York City Opera and Lincoln Center Institute and as a fellow for NYSCA Empire State Partnerships. She began her career as a singer, performing professionally in recital, chamber concerts and large ensembles, including the New York City Opera, New York Philharmonic and Gregg Smith Singers.

Deeply committed to growth for artists and communities, Liz's work as a consultant includes developing arts education programs, facilitating professional development sessions and supporting institutional transitions. She serves on the Brooklyn Queens Conservatory of Music Advisory Board and has been a member of grant review panels for the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and Center for Arts Education.

Liz Norman holds a BA in Humanities and a BMus in Voice Performance from McGill University in Montreal as well as a MMus in Voice Performance from the Manhattan School of Music. She makes her home in Brooklyn, with her husband and two sons.
