Masters of the Renaissance: England

Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 8:00pm

This year, for our annual Renaissance concert, we travel to a most fertile soil: England, home of one of the richest schools of Renaissance choral music.

We will journey from antique chants and works of the late Medieval and early Renaissance periods through master compositions of the two “giants” — Tallis and Byrd — and straight up to the advent of the Baroque. Other composers include Farrant, Tye, Gibbons, and Weelkes.

Renaissance England not only produced Shakespeare, Elizabeth I, and Sir Thomas More, but also the greatest wealth of master composers that island has ever known.
