In perhaps the most unusual program we have ever presented, we offer four works that have nothing in common with each other, except that each, in its own way, has an inner core of spirituality.

Bora Yoon represents what might be called “avant-garde” — with her chorus in surround positions, taped sounds, and non-traditional instruments.

Dobrinka Tabakova’s piece, for cello solo, chorus and orchestra is more conservative, and traces its roots back to English countryside composers such as Vaughan Williams and Delius.

Finally we will perform one of the masterpieces of choral music, the Theresienmesse of Haydn. As thrilling and brilliant as this Mass can get in certain movements, there is also an interior, humble spirituality that is extremely touching and profound.
